Seasons Greetings to all our supporters

christmas2010.jpg

A new blog post this month all about one of our regular stalls Beans and Leaves.

Also we've had two fantastic write ups, on in the Co-op News and the other by the Midlands Food Bloggers.

Hope to see you at our markets next year!

1st Birthday Market Saturday 17 July

We're still enjoying the memories of our first Birthday market - thanks to everyone who attended and made it such a success. These are pictures from our first birthday and celebrating the market becoming a co-operative enterprise with the help of Co-operative Futures.

Well I thought my biggest claim to fame was the Boyzone autographs... not any more! I have my picture with the Twang! That's right, the 24 Carrots Farmers Market is now a hip celeb hang out* (* just like to point out that the Twang are the first celebs to come so no need to hang around the stalls, paparazzos) And this was just one of the many highlights from the 24 Carrots Market big Birthday bash!

We've had a great write up in the

The day didn't get off to the greatest of starts as the carroteers had to bring out the Eco Ponchos to avoid a soaking, however, the arrival of our birthday cake put a smile on our hungry faces and miraculously the sun began to shine! Added to this was the arrival of the representative from the Co-op, Jim Pettipher, that's right- the farmer's market is on its way to becoming a co-operative! And to make us even more excited a photographer arrived to take some truly dashing pictures of us, Rob Rowlands at Abandoned Bicycle photography made us look fantastic without the need for airbrushing - have a look on Flickr for the images.

You may even spot the elusive and exclusive carrot variety known as knitted Carrots on display in the photo's-an incredibly rare breed of Carrot that delighted children and adults alike on the day!

As it was our birthday, we felt like spoiling ourselves... and what better way to spoil yourself than with jewellery! So for our birthday bash and to replace the annual arts and jewellery fair that was sadly cancelled this year, the market had a few local jewellers and artists come along for the day to highlight the creative side of the Jewellery Quarter- and what fun we had! There were lots of smiling faces, in particular from the winners of the tombola!

So the market has been around for a full year- now to plan for the next year and how to make even bigger and better! Remember, 24 Carrots is good for you :)

HISTORY

The first market took take place on the 4th July 2009 as part of the Jewellery Quarter FestivalThe Market was officially opened by local councillor Kath Hartley, and will provide supply of fresh local produce to the communities of Ladywood. It was a lovely sunny day, with lots of visitor to the Jewellery Quarter attending the market.  There were 24 stalls who took part on the first market day! There is a video of the market and photos that show what a great day it was!

The Jewellery Quarter is an unique area in the heart of Birmingham City Centre.  It is a conservation area, home to over 400 jewellery businesses, specialist wedding retailers, fine restaurants, bars and galleries.  As such it is a thriving commercial centre attracting shoppers from the Birmingham area and beyond.
